Come Try Ringette on Sept. 7
Submitted By Admin on Friday, August 30, 2019
The sport of ringette is a fun and affordable recreation option for families in Oshawa and surrounding communities.

The Oshawa Storm Ringette Association (OSRA) has been providing young people an opportunity to play this fast, athletic and team-oriented sport since 1967.

Across Canada there are more than 30,000 registered ringette players who participate in a range of levels including House League, Regional, Provincial and National.

There is long history of the sport in Canada and it is played around the world in countries like Finland, Sweden, Japan, Australia, Germany, New Zealand, France, Slovakia, Czech Republic, and the U.S.

The sport continues to grow and we continue our efforts locally to make ringette available to more and more young people in our community.

The opportunity to try ringette will be on display Saturday, September 7 at 1:15 p.m. on Pad 4 at Delpark Homes Centre (formerly Legends) as we how our Come Try Ringette event.

This event brings new parents into the arena and puts future players on the ice to experience ringette for the first time. It’s a great way for the whole family to get a taste of what ringette is all about.

On the ice there will be instructors, coaches and players from existing Oshawa Storm teams helping players of various ages and skating abilities. Parents and volunteers currently connected with ringette will also be on hand to answer any questions related to the rules, game times, equipment needs and costs.

It’s okay to be unfamiliar with ringette. Many parents who have become ringette parents had little knowledge of the sport prior their children becoming players. While often compared to hockey because it is played ice, the rules of ringette are actually more similar to basketball and lacrosse. It is a truly unique sport and that is one big reason why parents and players quickly become passionate about ringette.

For others who grew up playing ringette, they have become tireless volunteers in our organization who are dedicated to giving their children the same quality experience they enjoyed growing up playing the sport.
