Act of Class Soothes Season-Ending Heartbreak for U12Rs
The season ended just one goal short of the Gold Medal for
the Oshawa Storm U12 Regional team competing at the Central Region championship
tournament last weekend in Whitby.
In their final round robin game, the Storm surrendered a 2-0
lead to eventually drop a 4-3 decision to the Newmarket Rays. The loss sent
Newmarket to the final against Pickering and ended the season for Oshawa.
Earlier in the tournament, Oshawa fell 11-6 to Pickering before defeating the Whitby Wild 5-3 on Saturday.
Rachael Bryan led the way with five goals on the weekend, while Lauren McDonald added three markers and Beatrice McAdam scored a pair. Ellie Sargent and Mackenzie Stone each netted a goal and three assists, while Emma Davies and Maddy Sainte-Marie added single tallies. Davies also added two helpers, while single assists went to McAdam, Jena Marshall, Logan Ament, Skylynn Horn, Kenedi Donahue-Moffat and Mackenzie Walker. Abby Alchin, Mackenzie Phelan and Avery Mathers also put in strong performances over the weekend.
Following the hard-fought game final game of the season, the Storm paid respect to the Rays with a stick tunnel for the Newmarket players to pass through as they exited the ice. The act of sportsmanship attracted attention and praise from opposing coaches and ringette associations on social media. This article has been viewed 683 times.
