WEEKEND ROUNDUP: Junior Players Excite in Whitby Exhibition Opener
Submitted By Oshawa Storm PR on Monday, February 11, 2019
Family, friends and ringette players gathered in a crowded Rink 6 at the Iroquois Park Sports Centre in Whitby on Saturday as the Oshawa Storm’s junior house league players took part in the first of four exhibition games with the Whitby Wild.

For most players it was their first experience playing against players from a different association.

The fun continues Saturday as the two associations gather at 8:15 a.m. on Saturday at Iroquois for game two of the four-game series.

U8s Calm ‘Wild’ and Outlast ‘Blizzard’
The Oshawa Storm U8 squad came out on top in both of their weekend games.

On Saturday morning they defeated the Whitby Wild 8-3 at Iroquois Park Sports Centre.

Camille Mathers had an excellent game in net making many saves, while Jackson Missons led the storm with four goals, while Adele Keeler netted a pair. Harper McAlister and Keira Dewar added one goal apiece.

On Sunday evening the Storm faced the Barrie Blizzard in a tightly contested game.

The Storm came from behind and scored late to earn a 10-8 victory. Morgan McMahon was stellar between the pipes in the victory. Keeler potted four goals, while Dewar added a hat trick. Callum Bruce scored twice, while Olivia Byrom added a single tally.

Both victories were a result of a total effort with all players working hard.

U12Rs Fall Short of Comeback in Whitby
Despite overcoming an early two-goal deficit, the Oshawa Storm U12 were not able to close the deal and fell 5-4 to the Whitby Wild in U12 Regional action on Sunday at McKinney Arena in Whitby.

Trailing 5-3 in the second half, the Storm scored with the goalie out to claw within one goal. However, that was as close as the Storm would get.

In the goal scoring department, Ellie Sargent led the way with two goals, while Mackenzie Stone and Lauren McDonald added single tallies. Beatrice McAdam, Abby Alchin and McDonald also added assists. Stella Youngs made 15 saves, including several of the spectacular variety, to keep the Storm in striking distance.
