WEEKEND ROUNDUP: Storm Leave Pickering with Gold in U9 and U10

It was a golden weekend for two of the five Oshawa Storm teams playing in the Pickering Ringette Tournament last weekend.

In U10 play, Amelia Blazeichuk scored two goals to lead the Storm to a 4-3 victory over the Sunderland Stingerz in the championship game.

Maya Edison also scored for the Storm who earned round robin victories over the Markham Bears, Newmarket Rays and Sault Ste. Marie Ice Hawks before facing Sunderland in the final.

Blazeichuk led the way with 12 goals in the tournament, while Edison added six tallies and Alexa Volpe and Emma Parkin netted five each. Laura Cooper scored three goals and added two assists, while Kalli Howard and Kayla Snow each added a pair of markers. Single tallies went to Addison Wright, Lily Smith, Violet Bowman and Olivia Marshal, who also added eight assists in the tournament.

The Storm also struck gold in the U9 division by defeating the Pickering Lightning 5-4 in the championship game. Rebecca Bryan lead the Storm with 12 goals and five assists in the tournament, while Mayci Grieve netted 10 goals. Ava Saunders-Godin and Lilly Tarpey each notched three goals and three assists, while Makayla Cole added a pair of goals. Brynn Klender, Gillian Missons and Csenge Laszlo netted single tallies in the Storm’s champions weekend.

In the U8 division, the Storm excited many as they played in their first tournament of the season.  In their game against Sunderland, Olivia Byrom scored the only goal for the Storm. Early Sunday morning the Storm went up against Pickering in a very close, exciting game. Byrom netted another two goals with Callum Bruce and Camille Mathers getting one a piece. 

In U12 Regional play, the Storm fell short in games against Pickering, West Ottawa Metcalfe. Rachael Bryan scored four goals and added an assist in the tournament, while Mackenzie Stone potted two goals and added three helpers. Ellie Sargent also scored for the Storm. Stella Youngs was strong in net for the Storm making 77 saves over three games.

In U14A action the Storm earned victories over Nepean and Sault Ste. Marie, but fell to Ajax and Dorchester during round robin play. Elizabeth Hughes led the way with eight goals in the tournament, while Emma Dove added three markers to go along with three assists. Rachel Tumin scored twice as did Ciara Soares. Emma Chayka, Grace Thomson, Hannah Jenkin and Kennedi Roberts added single tallies.

In the U19A division, the Storm fell 6-1 to Forest in the semifinal. In round robin action, the Storm defeated Ajax 5-4 and Kitchener 7-3, but fell to Richmond Hill 3-1 and played to a 4-4 draw with Forest. Farrah Deans and Lauren Downer each scored four goals in the tournament, while Palaina Bradley potted three goals. Hana Kennedy scored twice, while Gemma Chatten, Claire Baggesen, Kaitlyn Simpson and Brooklyn Parker-Carley added single markers.

In 18+ BB play on the weekend Oshawa earned one victory in three round robin games. Erik Ramsey scored three goals, while Heather Ross added a pair. Colleen Munro and Izabella Vergera also scored for the Storm.
